SHESHORY → ARTPOLE. Sounds/Actions in the Space
Originated in Sheshory, a distant Hutsul village, the festival has turned within six years into one of the biggest Ukrainian open air events. It became a center of multicultural interaction for thousands of happy people that are open to the world and to each other. Among them you can find real masters of authentic singing and crafts, talented contemporary artists and musicians: Maraca and Čankišou (the Czech Republic), Di Grine Kuzine (Germany), Orkiestra św. Mikołaja and Transkapela (Poland), Va-Ta-Ga and Pakava It (Russia), Red Cardel and Nourou (France), Merlin Shepherd Kapelye (Great Britain), Troitsa and NagUal (Belarus), as well as the world-music stars: Fanfare Ciocărlia (Romania), Hedningarna (Sweden), and Trans-Global Underground (Great Britain). The Ukrainian part of the program was also very saturated varying from archaic to modern authoring unexpected but extremely convincing versions of ethnic music. The Sheshory Festival hosted one of the first noted performances of Perkalaba, DakhaBrakha, Propala Hramota, and Burdon.
Today, these groups are the most interesting in the field of experiments and live music, but they not always fit the ‘ethno’ format. Their space is a bit broader than the one specified by the common definition. Likewise, the artists also go beyond the established concept of the land art. More and more often the music is supplemented with audiovisual performances – theater, interactive workshops, and the land art. Sounds/actions in the space have no restrictions for styles, names and definitions, as there has never been the limit between the public and the performers at our festival. The only requirement is that everything that takes place at the festival art field must be an art.
In order not to restrict the festival movement by the time and place, like three days in the Carpathian mountains or in Podillya, the organizing team that has been helping in creating all this art in the field for six years, has founded the ArtPole agency. Just this autumn, the agency coordinated tours of Yuriy Andrukhovych with Karbido (Poland) and vj-group Kub, as well as the Belarusian group NagUal, and supported series of events in Kyiv such as the International Day of Without Automobiles. In future, ArtPole would also be involved into bright art events in various locations of Ukraine – organizationally and emotionally. From now, the festival will last permanently, however, its culmination as always will be in the middle of summer – follow our announcements!
