Music Hudaky play is fully authentic. Their repertory consists of old songs and dances from the nearby Zakarpathian villages, and these songs were transmitted from one generation to another without any scores
Formerly there were three musicians who played at weddings. They were a first fiddler, who played the main tune (he was called «hudak»), a second fiddler, who accompanied the first, and a «bubnash», who gave a rhythm. Often these musicians were called «hudaky». The musicians from a Zakarpathian village Nyzhnie Selyshche became «Hudaky» accidentally. This nick was given to them after a rehearsal of the village propaganda brigade where in the scenario was a phrase «Call Hudaky!», and from the side where the members of a new founded nameless band were sitting there was a reply: «What about us? Aren’t we hudaky?».
In Zakarpattya the Ukrainians, Hungarians, Romanians, Romes and Jews have been living side by side for centuries, that is why the musical boundaries are also not very distinct. It is impossible to find an ethnic purity in the region which in the last 100 years changed its political affiliation for 6 times. Nevertheless the music Hudaky play is fully authentic. Their repertory consists of old songs and dances from the nearby Zakarpathian villages, and these songs were transmitted from one generation to another without any scores.
