At Sheshory, the sounds of the Kharkhiv Klezmer Band will be amplified by gems of the Jewish wedding and Chassidic music world

Kharkiv-Klezmer-Band This year the leaders of Ukrainian klezmer – the Kharkhiv Klezmer Band – are celebrating the 10th year anniversary of the ensemble. Yurij Khayinson, accordionist for the band says: «In the years since our founding the ensemble has earned the love of real connoisseurs of European music. The enchanting sounds of the violin, clarinet, accordion and bass, the inimitable timbre of the singer’s voice caress the ears of Kyivan pensioners, Brusselian government workers, Torontan exchange brokers, London dockworkers, Cracowan rascals, Norwegian oilmen, Finnish lumberjacks and Berlin policeman…»

When these musicians play out their melodies, time is suspended and becomes eternal. At Sheshory, the sounds of the Kharkhiv Klezmer Band will be amplified by gems of the Jewish wedding and Chassidic music world. Joining them will be:

Timur Fishel (Tallinn, Estonia) – singer, leader of the Tallinn-based Yiddish club, one of the founders of Tallinn’s DIY song scene; has given concerts in Tallinn, Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Kyiv, London, Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto and San Francisco; his repertoire includes lyrical, humorous, ghetto songs and bandit songs in Yiddish.

Natasha Kasianchyk (Kyiv, Ukraine) – performer of klezmer music on the domra, composer, soloist in the group «Merlin Shepherd’s Kapelye» (Great Britain); her playing unites the awesome energy of the folk spirit with a classical aesthetic.

Mark Kovnatskiy (Hamburg, Germany) – violinist, composer, teacher of Jewish dance; two-time laureate of the international contest «Golden Hanukah»; author of a series of original klezmer compositions, which he performs with a variety of groups all over the world.
